Friday, September 30, 2011 Winds have blown from the southeast over the past three day. This put a halt to catching fish. However, I spoke with our friend from Rowan County. Today his wife hauled in a 24 in puppy drum off the north end of Carolina Beach. Rains are falling as I type. Gas prices have lowered. $3.39 are showing up here and there. Stay tuned! Local Fishermen stopped by yesterday. He was rejoicing in his catch of Flounders and Bluefish. The shrimp he bought from us worked. He reported his catch came from the area of the first crossover at Fort Fisher. Another local fisherman - CEO has a new fishing friend. "She's a great cook"! He stopped by to show off their nice 15 plus inch Flounder. Clear skies have returned. Over the past week, more than 8 inches of rain have fallen. Red Drum are back! 20 - 25 inches in length. You need to take a couple of licensed friends with you because only one Red Drum per person per day is allowed. 18 - 27 inches is the size limits. Friday, August 26, 2011 Kure Beach Public Works is busy batten down the hatches so to speak. Lifeguard stands moved to higher grounds, town equipments secured along with other choirs. AGAIN! 1,500 foot Atlantic Ocean waterspout moves onshore and cross over land into Carolina Beach Lake! Now official reports of a shark attack <click south of Kure Pier. Swimmer receives several stitches. Witness said the five footer circled and tried to strike twice before her husband got his wife out of the water. Tide table Tuesday, August 16, 2011 We are back! The past five days have been very productive in catching Pompano, Croakers and Virginia Mullets. Most of the these fish were released while the bigger ones made it to the kitchen. The heat index has been a bearable this week. The southeast winds been very nice. Tide table Tuesday, August 9, 2011 This morning, right in front of our apartments, our guest caught lots of pan sided Pompanos with shrimp. The massive heat streak continues. A few nights ago, WECT-TV6 reported the heat index at 11 pm was a muggy 96 degrees. Over the weekend a report came in that a person walking on Kure Pier was ticketed for stopping and holding a Pelican while someone took his picture. "...As of this morning the fire had burned more than 18,000 acres..." Last reports show the fire heading into Onslow county. Reports tell us Spots, Croakers and Virginia Mullets have been caught. Several of our guest have been dinning on their own catches and garden vegetables. Our guest in apartments 5 and 6 were in the dark for about 90 minutes. The accompanying flash rains produced water puddles 6 inches deep and up to 100 feet long. So much for Monday's report. The warm summer heat was no help. Noon: Two boaters stopped in today to report they had got into a mess of Back Sea Bass yesterday on "Sheephead Rock"! Sheephead Rock is a natural underwater rock structure located about one mile out to sea off the Fort Fisher "land" Monument. At low tide and 3 foot seas, one looking through a pair of binoculars may see waves braking over her. This morning I spotted several boats fishing off Carolina Inlet. Stay tuned! Tide table Thursday, June 9, 2011 Kure Beach Fire Department was called out last night to retrieve two fishermen stranded on the "Rock-Wall" south of the ferry landing. Chicken necks, Fish heads and bare feet make wonderful bait. Which reminded me, remember that 70's song, "Afternoon Delight" ? Its kind-a like an "Adam and Eve" story. Well get back to the Pier- house and get your picture taken". This report told by a very excited eye-witness. Yes there is nothing like reeling in 20 pound fighting fish. Other folks are taken advantage of the sun and water activities. Two mornings ago, Kure Beach, Carolina Beach and Wilmington woke up to sight and smell of the Dare county forest fire smoke. Dare county is approximately 175 miles north of here. For the past day no smoke and no smoke smell. For the first time in a long time, we saw $3.79 at a gas station in Wilmington. Stay tuned! Their two day fishing adventures had yielded 30 plus Bluefish. Today there were reports coming in that 24 inch Bluefish were being caught on shore and Kure Pier. Over the winter we were very fortunate to have many long term guest stay with us . Many winter chores along with some personal works were also completed. Fishing reports were pretty good Palm Sunday weekend. Virginia Mullets up to 15 inches were caught, cleaned, fried and eaten by several guest. Fishing reports have been very sporadic since.
