Saturday, November 11, 2017 "Just Bluefish, that's it, nothing else!" reported my first fishermen this morning. This morning, business has almost stopped. Yesterday our shop was packed several time$. Friday, November 10, 2017 Yes, it has been a nice week for catching fish. I have been out most of the week updating my property management licenses. Black Drum and Large Virginia Mullets are here. For me, I'm seeing more fish caught than there are fishermen. Rain showers from the drop in temperature, along with a steady Northeast wind has be very confronting. Saturday, November 4, 2017 New set if fishermen have arrived. Most are looking for a great weekend, a few are staying till mid week. We sold out of sand fees. Black Drum had a feast this past week on these crustaceans*.

November 1, 2017 Well folks, the Bluefish and other small catches did not satisfy our nice folks from the mountains of North Carolina. These gentlemen were looking to take back Kings and Spanish. Saturday, October 28, 2017 Warm sunny weather has many fishermen asking for sunscreen. Big keeper sized Black Drum reported from Atlantic Towers fishermen. Three pounds of Sand flees were there bait. Flounders, Permits - they favor Pompanos, have been reported by guest fishermen. Water temperatures are in the mid 70's. Very warm for late October. Thursday, October 26, 2017 Great news! The past two days, guest fishermen have caught wonderful fish . 24 inch Bluefish, several keeper flounders have made their day. Local boater reported something out of the norm. Fishing Cape Fear River an eight point buck swam right by his boat, jumped the rock wall then swam into the bay. Sunday, October 22, 2017 Well folks, I entered the local "Fisherman Post October 2017 Pleasure Island Fishing Tournament". Our group did not place. We had lots of fun enjoying the great outdoors. For us, small Virginia Mullets and Pompanos were our main catch. Shrimp and Our World Renown Salted Mullets were our main baits. I was hoping for Red Drum but unfortunately, null! Ouch. Tournament results will be posted Monday. North of Kure Pier were several sport fishing boats. We believe they were going after Spanish Mackerel. Saturday, October 21, 2017 On the surf from N. Avenue to the Kure Beach Fishing Pier, 50 plus fishermen. Before sunrise, many bites. We counted 24 boats south of Carolina Beach to Kure Pier. Thursday, October 19, 2017 MUD MINNOWS ARE BACK!! Reports are coming in from several fishermen stating per-dawn hours to about 9 am are the best time to catch Bluefish, Flounders and Pompanos. Wednesday, October 18, 2017 Much needed cool northeast breeze today. Water temperatures have dropped to 74 degrees. Today, many fishermen have stopped by. Fishing Licenses, Mullets, Jumbo Bloodworms and Shrimp were the items of choice. Right now, we are out of mud minnows. This morning, a nice load of Jumbo Mullets arrived. Tuesday, October 17, 2017 Reports are, "Without an umbrella, it is way too hot to catch fish!" Yesterday, temperatures where very hot and humid. For us, it felt like the upper 80's. Around 4 PM, a much need cool front came through town. Temperatures dropped 20 degrees. It almost felt cold, but our short pants and short sleeves were fine. Sunday, October 8, 2017 Sad news [ StarNews Wilmington, NC: DONALD JAMES LEWIS Donald James Lewis better known to family and friends as "Red" for his red hair in his youth passed quietly in his home October 2, 2017].

Yes, we are all going to miss Red. Over the past 35 years, the countless times the local government agencies wished to change the wildlife regulations, Or close off sections of our beach, Red Lewis was at the top of my list for finding correct information. One of Red’s creeds was the love and protection of the great outdoors. Genesis 1: 26 fit Red's many qualities! "Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all[b] the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”  27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them." Friday, October 6, 2017 Today's report consist of Flounder, Virginia Mullets and Pompanos. At the moment, Sand Flees in the surf are scarce. Last week's heavy Northeast winds removed about 50 feet of beach sand. Relax, one still had access to water. Today, fisherman reported sands were building back the slop. Thursday, October 5, 2017 Yesterday's late afternoon rain shower yield a Flounder Run on the world famous Kure Beach Fishing Pier. This evening guest fisherman cleaning half-a-dozen Virginia Mullets. Wednesday, October 4, 2017 At the moment, 4:30pm, light rain showers are falling. Earlier today, fresh Pompanos and Pop-eyed Mullets were dressed on our cleaning table. Winds stronger yesterday than today. While tossing fish guts into the ocean, one could see the works of the consistent high winds. Many sand dunes showing 15 foot cliffs where winds and tides have cut. From past experience, winds and tides will repair the dunes close to their original shape. Saturday, September 30, 2017 Winds continue from the Northeast, 12-20 knots. Several Giant Red Drums, one yard stick + in length, are reported south of Kure Beach. Friday, September 29, 2017 In town, Red Drum were caught today. Not sure of the baits, but it took heavy weights to keep the tackle out long enough for a strike. Wednesday, September 27, 2017 No fish catching reports. Ocean have been a bit ruff, winds out of the North East 10 knots or so, but that is normal. Monday, September 25, 2017 Well bitting files have dropped. Thank the Lord! Northeast winds have picked up. I assume from hurricane Maria, 450+ miles southeast of us. Trout and Croakers reports picked up for us. One Trout was so happy in the boat he fell out and got all wet again! Other reported the Air Base and Rock wall south of the Ferry Landing was good. Notices: The Rock Jetty south of the ferry, as way too many hazards!! I did see few folks venture past the "Do not pass" point. Please obey the signs. Kure Beach Fire Department has responded to several boaters and jetty wall walkers this season. Bloodworm demand has risen. Spots are here but no reports of large schools. Wednesday, September 20, 2017 4 PM UPDATE! Fishing the Cape Fear River next to Air Base's pier, pastor catches a 21 inch Flounder while enjoying his family Kayak. Other News our Fresh Salted Mullet is back! 9am: Bitting Flies and Bitting Pompanos, Red Drum, Virginia Mullets, Spots, no Flounder reports, Bluefish, Black Drum and yes beloved Pinfish! Well folks, during the late evening of yesterday, we got in a fresh load of 2 pound Pop-eyed Mullets. In mid-afternoon, Bloodworms from Canada arrived. Hurricane Irma's outer bands of winds, pass Tuesday. Humidity rose as hot sunshine warmed up our wind blown coast. Heavy erosion Monday. Walking on the beach Wednesday showed things back to normal. Very fortunate!

Thursday, July 24, 2017 Croakers, Virginia Mullets and many small Sharks caught over the past week. Other news: Special memories of someone special!! Well folks many people down this week. Lots of families and friends playing the bean-bag yard game, joggers are all up and down the street, locals running their weed-eaters. Here is something cool. Back in the 1970's there was a band from Sweden named ABBA. Yesterday, as my wife and I were pulling out of our driveway, two boys and two girls, all smiling toward one other, passed by on their bicycles. One of the lady riders was very slim and had long blonde hair. :) Funny thing, when Karen and I returned, they too were returning from their trip. Yep! Friday, July 7, 2017 Fishing reports were slow this week. Many folks enjoyed the beach, swimming and sunning. Odd reports came in this week of person getting bitten by a Bull Shark, near Johnny Mercers' Fishing Pier, Wrightsville Beach, NC. Yes it is true. New video confirmed the story. As the hooked 6 foot Shark was being pulled toward the pier, a swimmer grab it's tail. One may see the Shark turning to defend himself and with one bit, the person starts to bleed. Friday, June 30, 2017 Where did this month go? Catches have been scattered all up and down the beach. For us, our major activity was replacing a flat roof. Over the past two months, the back of our shop became very leaky . Patching and roof-bucket coatings could not stop the major problem. With the service of a professional roofing company, a three day work project spread out over a ten day period. Daily rain showers had extended the project. Sunday, May 14, 2017 Happy Mother's Day! College students hooked, but are unable to haul in, one Large Horseshoe Crab. "It was way too big!" the fisherman reported. Fishing Kure Pier was better than fishing with all the bitting bugs along the Rock wall south of the ferry landing. Monday 8:00 am, April 24, 2017 At this time, no fishing reports. Everything is soaked from last nights rain showers. Overnight, our minnow tank's vent allowed it's water level to rise about 6 inches.
