Saturday, August 21, 2010    While fishing this week, one of our guest  had a remarkable discovery. Shark! Fishing south of Fort Fisher, this lady and her family were catch several fish. Spots, Croakers, Blue Fish and Flounder. All of a sudden a shark about 5 feet in length came in too close. Needless to say this was a big surprise. It also put a halt to catching fish.  Tonight the mosquitoes are in full number.     Today I noticed the yards in the neighborhood were turning greener after Thursday big rain and power storm. Thursday, August 19, 2010    (This is not the first time this phenomena has happened.) Facts or trivia?  Fish with green beaded tackle is spring and summer and red beaded tackle in fall and winter? Fishing side by side, one of our guest was very pleased with the new Eagle Claw Combo he had purchased from us. He was using a productive green beaded two drop rig while catching plenty of fish. Others fishing next to him were using red beaded two drop rigs. They were catching nothing. The common bait was Shrimp.     Other news, early this morning a big yellow school bus stopped in front of our shop . Quite frankly I think its two weeks too early.     Stay Tuned! Wednesday, August 18, 2010  Last evening, we rode down to the new Fort Fisher Boat Ramp. We saw were a new walkway had been constructed adjacent to ramp. "Very Nice"! Tuesday, August 17, 2010    Winds have been blowing more from the Northeast over the past couple of days. Several fishermen are still upset with the very hot weather temperatures. Thursday, August 12, 2010    Well there's a big fuss going on this week in Carolina Beach. He said - they said. click on >"Put the shark back in the water or pull the shark out the water"?   Other news, today I saw a catch of Croakers, Red Drum and Sheep Head Fish. August 6, 2010    Today reports finally improved. Pompanos and Red Drum reported. Kure Pier reported Flounder, Spots and Croakers. Friday, July 17, 2010    Kure Beach and it's neighboring counties got much needed rains this past week. Parts of Brunswick County reported "empty" five-inch-rain-gages overfilling overnight. Monday, July 12, 2010    Over the past 5 days, Spots, Croakers and Blue Fish have done very well. One fisherman caught 40. Three of our guest hooked into several nice sized Red Drum. Tuesday, June 29, 2010    This past Sunday, June 27, Kure Beach held it's annual triathlon. There was a good turnout.     Bluefish, Croakers and  Flounders are in the news however many locals are resorting to their gardening chores. Thursday, June 24, 2010     Cornelius, NC fireman makes good catching White Grunts south of Kure Pier. Several of the fish were more than a foot long. Then he went Gotcha Plugging on Kure Pier, a Barracuda hits his Bluefish. By the time the gaff hit the water, the 8 pound test line on his small fresh water reel, failed.     Heat wave continues!! Wednesday, June 23, 2010    Heat wave has EMS, Lifeguards, Police and Firemen on watch. Heat strokes are very common under current conditions. Tuesday, June 15, 2010    Middle of the month all ready! Last night many folks were noticing a high number of flies and mosquitoes. Friday, June 11, 2010    A very good week for "CATCHING FISH" !! Several of our guest caught Flounder, Spots, Bluefish, Croakers, Back Drum and Pompanos. Two 19 inch Flounder were reported. One of these small doormats was hauled from the beach right in front of the Blue Marlin Apartments. We had a scare last night. Fire department pagers went off stating high winds and heavy rains were seven miles north of us as very dark clouds pass all around. Monday, June 7, 2010     Ghost Town produces fish! :) There are not too many folks in town today, but of the ones that are fishing, Flounders and Black Drum made a pretty good showing! 4 foot sharks are being caught of Kure Pier. Sunday, June 6, 2010     D-Day anniversary of the Normandy Invasion.     Winds along the coast today have aggravated several beach goers today. One set of teenagers lost their 5 foot raft when the wind took it way off shore. Umbrellas have taken a beating. Fishermen are telling us the beach is too crowed to fish. Friday, June 4, 2010    Memorial Day weekend was very wonderful. Thousands of folks flocked to our Island to remember those who served and are serving our country.     Several times this past Saturday and Sunday traffic was backed up heart of Carolina Beach to the stop light in Kure Beach. Friday, May 21, 2010    Spanish Mackerel showed up this week. Got-cha plugs are the favorite lure of many fishermen. Deer Flies and No-See-ums are strong in number at the new "South End Boat Ramp". Sunday, May 16, 2010    Beach empties by noon. This morning I spoke with a family. I asked, "How was the fishing yesterday." Hoping to get a happy story, these folks reported a dismal weekend. Perhaps the fish did not care for their taste of loud music. They reported the water felt good. Many had red backs and bellies.     One of our brand new AC air handlers failed. Saturday, May 15, 2010    Too Good to be true? Yes its true!!     Lady fishermen came in with a big smile on her face. "Sir I caught an 8 lb Red Drum off your Shrimp!" Friday Morning    Yesterday one of our guest reported he dress a 4 lb Black Drum he caught at the Fort Fisher State Park. Other guest continued to catch nice size Bluefish and Virginia Mullets. Wednesday's night!     Well the Blue Marlin Apartments looks like she suppose to.  She filled with, "Fishermen and precious families members"! This morning one guest shared some of her home made venison sausage. By the time morning had past, several 14 to 18 inch Bluefish had been hauled in.  One fisherman thought he had a shark on his line. I suspect the Blues are after the migrating Pin Fish. Tuesday, May 11, 2010    Local fisherman and his wife travel up river to their secret fishing spot. They hook several slightly undersized Flounder which they promptly return to the water. On a re-cast wife hooks into a big Red Drum. Since the catch-limit is one per day per person, the husband hopes there's another big one waiting on him.  He cranks up the boat's motor and gets about ten feet when all of a sudden  he hears a kaput in the engine followed by dead silence! Tuesday, May 4, 2010    Finally something to brag about. Four "Blue Marlin Fishermen" caught a nice mess of fish this morning. Virginia Mullets, Spots and Croakers. They put a hurting on a 5 gallon bucket. Rain showers are not a good as many of us had hoped for. Friday, April 29, 2010    Bluefish, Virginia Mullets, and Flounder have been caught off Kure Beach Fishing Pier and  the surf. Boaters are a little frustrated by the fact that two of the three boat ramps on the Island are closed. The south end boat ramp at Fort Fisher is opening soon! "She going to be real nice with lots of parking", according to one local.  Cool front came through two nights ago, it brought some wind gust and sharp lighting in the distance. Sunday, April 11, 2010    For us, we are not seeing many fishermen. Early this past Friday morning, Kure Beach got a good drenching of a much needed rain.     A couple of fishermen last Wednesday came in reporting the bay had pollen floating on top of the water. Happy Easter!!!     All over the county, churches were celebrating Easter Sunrise Worship.     Yesterday, we saw several nice sized Black Drum. Many were caught on the surf between Carolina and Kure Beach. Water temperatures are holding around 59 degrees. In Carolina Beach a bad traffic jam occurred under the new traffic pattern. Friday, March 26, 2010     Over the past week, Black Drum have been making a good showing. Kure Beach Fishing Pier has her side gate open. I see several fishermen on the her deck. Thursday, March 18, 2010    Over the weekend we noticed a group of fishermen north of our shop. "Nothing yet."  This past Tuesday, Kure Beach's Building Inspector informed town council of the completed south-end task of beach re-nourishment. Now the project moves to the adjacent beach of Myrtle Avenue and north well into Carolina Beach. Tuesday, March 9, 2010    Local fishermen reported "zilch", meaning zero,  on catching fish. "Not yet Gilbert, give it about 10 more days".  Dredging operations are well underway in Kure Beach. Standing at the E avenue crossover, one may see the beach building up south toward Ocean Dunes. The huge dredging ship sits about 2500 yards out. From past experiences the Ocean' floor is comprised of sand, blue-clay, fossilized mammals, shells and cannon balls left over from the  great "Civil War Sea Battle of Fort Fisher". Military experts have assured us the likely hood of an explosion is very rare due to the sea water pressure over such a long period of time, 145 years, plus (assuming) the dredge's auger would brake open the farad projectiles. Wednesday, March 4, 2010  This morning we noticed the arrival of the very large offshore dredge. I try to find out her total size later. Commercial fishermen are scouting the waters about a mile out. Sunday, February 28, 2010    Last Thursday we noticed an offshore dredging operation setting up. Kure Beach's three year cycle of State, Federal and ROT Beach Re-nourishment will be coming soon. Location will be south of Kure Pier to north of the Cocina Rocks at Fort Fisher. About three weeks ago Kure Beach received 3 to 6 inches of Snow. Our town was inundated with snow men and other figures thou out our town. Stay tuned!
